A New International Medical Platform Joins the GBA
International Medical Center of The Eighth Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yet-sen University is Officially Launched
As a national high-level platform for opening-up, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) is attracting global talents and resources with its robust growth momentum. On January 27, the International Medical Center of the Eighth Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) was officially launched in Futian.
Professor Chen Yanming, president of the hospital, introduced that the International Medical Center leverages the century-old medical education heritage of SYSU and the clinical strength of its affiliated hospitals. The center integrates the hospital’s leading disciplines and international resources, and has built a one-stop cross-border medical service platform providing outpatient services, inpatient care, and health management.
Professor Gao Song, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and President of SYSU, presented certificates of Medical Director of the International Medical Center to Professor Yat-Yin Lam, Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of UK and Director of Hong Kong Asian Heart Center at Hong Kong Canossa Hospital, and Professor Yang Yanqi, Senior Consultant in Cardiothoracic Surgery, Linköping University Hospital, Sweden, and Director of the Cardiovascular Surgery Department at the Eighth Affiliated Hospital, SYSU.
Zhou Jiangtao, District Mayor of the Futian District People’s Government, and Yuan Ying, Vice District Mayor of the Futian District People’s Government, presented certificates of Medical Expert of the International Medical Center to Professor Shi Dazhuo, National Qihuang Scholar (national leading talents in TCM), and Head of the Cardiology Department of the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences; Professor Chen Jiyan, Chief Physician of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Guangdong Provincial People’s Hospital; Professor Chen Yanming, President and Academic Leader in Endocrinology of the Eighth Affiliated Hospital, SYSU; and Professor Wu Guifu, Director and Academic Leader of Cardiology Department of the Eighth Affiliated Hospital, SYSU.
It is reported that the hospital has established extensive collaborations with medical institutions in Sweden, France, Germany, the United States, Australia, Hong Kong (China), and other countries and regions. The center has set up outpatient clinics, emergency department, and inpatient units, sharing global resources through collaborations including remote consultations and academic exchanges.
Looking ahead, based on the International Medical Center, the hospital plans to construct an International Medical Building integrating high-end diagnosis and treatment, scientific research translation, and smart services. It is committed to create a benchmark for medical innovation in the GBA and contribute a “Shenzhen Solution” to the Healthy China Initiative.
